Communities demo script

This is the text for the Communities demo.

About this task

Communities lets you bring together a group of people who share a common interest.

This demo shows you how to:
  • Find a community that interests you
  • View information related to a community
  • Join a community
  • Start a community
  • Add a widget to a community
  1. Click the Public Communities tab to display a list of all the public communities in your network.
  2. Communities are listed with the most recently updated communities shown at the top. You can sort the list to quickly find communities by popularity and name.
  3. Select a tag in the tag cloud to display a list of communities related to a specific topic.
  4. This returns a list of all the communities tagged with the selected keyword. Click a community name to find out more about it.
  5. The community overview page includes a description of the community, important bookmarks, and the most recently added forum topics, feeds, and bookmarks.
  6. The Members page lists the members of the community.
  7. The Discussion Forum page lists the discussion topics posted by members of the community. Every community has its own discussion forum where members can collect and share information.
  8. Click a topic title to view the responses associated with it.
  9. A threaded view of the discussion displays.
  10. The Feeds page lists the feeds that the community is subscribed to. Feeds allow community members to keep up-to-date with information from their favourite Web sites without having to leave the community.
  11. Click Show details to see a list of recent updates for a feed. Then select a feed entry to find out more.
  12. The feed entry opens in a new window. Click Close to return to the community.
  13. The Bookmarks page displays the bookmarks shared by community members.
  14. Once you've found a community that interests you, joining that community is as simple as clicking a button.
  15. You can add bookmarks, feeds, and discussion topics to a community after you've joined it. You can also e-mail other members of the community.
  16. Anyone with access to Communities can start a community. If you are an expert in a particular area and you want to get together with people who share your interest, why not start a community around this topic?
  17. Click Start a community and complete the Start a Community form.
  18. Add members to the community by typing names into the Members field. New members are automatically sent an e-mail with a link to the community.
  19. You can upload an image to associate with the community or apply a different theme.
  20. Applying a different theme changes the fonts and colors that are used in the community.
  21. Click Save to save your new community.
  22. You can bring additional functionality to your new community by adding different types of widget. For example, you might want to add a community blog.
  23. To add a widget to a community, click Customize to display the options available.
  24. Add a blog to your community by clicking Blog.
  25. All you need to do now is click Create Your First Entry and start blogging.
  26. The My Communities tab lists all the communities that you have joined or created.
  27. Click the tab to confirm that your new community has been added.
  28. Now that you know the basics, get people together around a topic that interests you. Start sharing information and collaborating!
